  • Ralph DiRienzo and Colleen Dunn teach the authentic Luigi Jazz Technique. The exercise routine Luigi created for his own rehabilitation after a devastating accident became the world’s first complete technique for learning jazz dance. Dance historians have defined the style as classic jazz, sophisticated, elegant and even liquid fire. The class uses stretching exercises in a routine to discover what has to be done to control the body. This technique is designed to prevent injuries, while “always putting the body in the right position” and “feeling from the inside out”. The importance of using the body properly is stressed; telling students to take their time and feel what they’re doing. “If you keep doing things right long enough, they’ll get better right.”

Practically speaking, the warm-up takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes and the remainder of the class is dedicated to a jazz routine: sometimes the music is from eras gone by; Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy David Jr. Tony Bennett, etc. Other combinations are choreographed to more contemporary artists such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Cold Play, Renee Olstead, etc.

Students are encouraged to work at their own pace. All levels are welcome.

  • Broadway is in the house, baby! Come dance to the tunes of Broadway’s best as Colleen takes you on a journey of both authentic and original Broadway choreography.

Aimed at focusing on the wellbeing of a dancers’ body, Colleen uses her own, faster paced pre-show warmups followed by across-the-floor exercises or adagio before guiding students into a fun, theatre inspired combination. While students are encouraged to work at their own pacing, this class is aimed at intermediate and advanced level dancers who have had experience in Jazz, Theatre Jazz, and/or Ballet.

  • This open level adult class is choreography-based to build dancers’ movement vocabulary and personal style. After starting with a warm up, students will be guided through basic moves before learning a short combo to a new song each week. The goal of this class is for dancers to gain confidence, control movements, and make it their own. Whether you are a trained hip hop dancer or interested in getting into it, this class is for you! It is a space for beginners to grasp choreography and advanced dancers to add style to their movements.
